PS Conference:
Playstation 3 Set for Global Launch!
------------------------------------------------------------
Though it has indeed been confirmed that the Playstation 3 is
being delayed until November, Ken Kutaragi put the fears of
domestic gamers at ease, revealing that Sony is setting up for a
worldwide launch! The current release date is November 11th in
all regions, just in time for the holidays! Kutaragi also
commented that they plan to have 6 million units ready for
distribution through the end of the 2006 Financial Year.
PS
Conference: Playstation 3 - The
Rest
of the Story
In addition to all of the wonderful news concerning release
dates and the size of the HDD, Ken Kutaragi dropped a few more
tidbits on the status of the Playstation 3:
-The PS3 will be backwards compatible with PS1/PS2 games and
will be able to display most of them in high resolution (upscaled
to 1080p) as well as utilizing more advanced texture filtering.
-Sony's online network is purported to be free, featuring some
contributions from Gamespy Industries. Though Kutaragi was a bit
cryptic concerning these matters, it is likely to feature a
tiered payment system a la Xbox Live where the basic service
will be available at no cost.
-The PS3 will utilize a new form of HDMI called HDMI 1.3 with
48-bit color.
-All software for the machine will come on Blu-Ray discs due to
copy protection.
-Sony will be producing at least 1 million PS3 units a month
until launch. Just as well, 10 million Blu-Ray discs can be
manufactured on a monthly basis, each unit costing about 1000
yen.
-Final price is still not confirmed, but is supposedly "No less
than 50000 yen," roughly 425 USD. This could put the US price at
around $399-$449.
No
PS2 Price Drop
At today's Playstation Conference, Ken Kutaragi has stated
that there will be no price drop for the Playstation 2 in the
foreseeable future. Citing that the system's distribution is
already wide enough in Sony's target regions and that it
continues to sell well at its current price, the company sees no
reason to reduce the price beyond $149 at this time. Considering
the recent announcements of top-quality PS2 games into 2007,
Sony seems to have faith that the console's popularity won't die
out anytime soon.
-------------------------------------------------
PS Conference: Playstation 3 HDD Details
-------------------------------------------------
Ken Kutaragi has confirmed that the HDD peripheral will be
required and he encourages developers to make as much use of it
as possible. It will be approximately 60 gigabytes in size and
come pre-installed with the Linux operating system. Another
cited feature is the ability to use the Playstation 3 HDD as a
media storage device, a sort of hub from which information can
be accessed through a home network. At the time of this post, it
is unknown whether or not the HDD will actually be included with
the system, though a
press release on Sony's website does say that the PS3
features a 2.5" detachable HDD slot, meaning that either it
could be separate from the main package, there will be more one
than one version of the PS3, or that several sizes of HDDs may
everntually become available.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty
City Stories ON PS2! ::March 06, 2006::
--------------------------------------------------------
PSP owners have been celebrating the technological and creative
achievements of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, but
something must not be pleasing ol' Take-Two Interactive; their
2005 financial report says they're already planning on porting
the portable release onto the PlayStation 2.
Er, what? Apparently the PlayStation 2 version is expected in
the second quarter of this year, but the financial report
doesn't detail what, if any, enhancements to expect from the
port, but the decision may be fueled by sluggish holiday sales.
"Clearly, the holiday season did not live up to anyone's
expectations," says president and CEO Paul Eibeler.
There's also confirmation of another portable Grand Theft Auto
sometime next year. Take-Two already confirmed the game was in
development, but at least we know it's still on track. Take-Two
unsurprisingly makes no mention of showing off or releasing a
next-generation version of Grand Theft Auto.

NYC recieves a rateing of 4.6 at
GameSpot Shortly after Grand Theft
Auto III set the gaming world ablaze in 2001, one of the first
games to attempt to emulate that game's gritty style and
open-ended gameplay was True Crime: Streets of L.A. The game
left a lot of room for improvement, but it at least laid a
foundation that could be built upon in future installments in
the series. Somehow, though, with the follow-up, True Crime: New
York City, the series has taken a huge step backward.
True Crime: New York City is so riddled with problems that it
feels like it was rushed to make it to store shelves in time for
the holidays or was just a lost cause that got shoved to
retailers in the hopes of recuperating some of the development
costs. Even if you forgive the flimsy story, cliché characters,
and derivative gameplay, it's impossible to look past the myriad
of game-stopping bugs, frustrating glitches, and glaring
technical problems that plague this game. -Click

Xbox 360 Mod-Chip a FAKE !
| January
17, 2006 |
If you have been keeping
track of Xbox360 News (or if you read
Edge.i-hacked.com) you know that there is a LOT of
controversy surrounding the "ICE" modchip. A lot of
people have claimed that it is a fake, and that they
people "making" these chips are only out to SCAM you out
of your money. This of course has been counted with a
couple of "proof" videos released by Team ICE. However,
Ustler of Blacklisted411! has done a very thorough
background check and has come to the conclusion

Users report Xbox 360 "crashing like
mad"
So, the
Xbox 360's been available for,
what, 15 minutes, and already the
crash reports are streaming in.
According to postings on Xbox-Scene
and other fan sites, some early
adopters are discovering that
waiting on line in the cold for two
years to snag a box was the least of
their problems: the game consoles
are allegedly crashing during a
variety of games and reporting a
range of error messages. There's
even a pic up on flickr that
purports to show the 360 crashing as
the Microsoft logo loads. Sure, it's
too early to declare this a pandemic
and start hurling Xboxes out of
windows, but it still has us
wondering: How's your 360 holding
up?

ESRB
Changes GTA: San Andreas Rating
In what must be the biggest "scandal" to hit
video games since the Half-Life 2 code theft,
the Entertainment Software Rating Board has
changed the rating of Grand Theft Auto: San
Andreas from "Mature" to "Adults Only," based on
the discovery of a sex mini-game, known as Hot
Coffee, hidden within the title. Adding to the
intrigue is the question of whether this was
done intentionally, or whether it's an
unauthorized third party modification is to
blame. Who would have thought that a crudely
rendered sex scene that most users will never
even see could raise such a stir?
Shacknews has posted the results
of the ESRB investigation into the matter.

Hot Coffee
sex mini-game may land Rockstar
in hot water
The Hot Coffee hack added a sex
mini-game to
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
In it players had to sexually
satisfy CJ's virtual girlfriend
by rapidly moving the
controller. Now,
GameSpot, using Action
Replay, has revealed that the
Hot Coffee sex mini-game exists
in the PS2 version. This means
that Rockstar had created the
game (not hackers as they
originally lead gaming
journalists to believe) and
either intentionally put it in
the game as an easter egg, or
forgot to remove it from the
code, before publishing it.
Either way, parents and
politicians are up in arms over
this 'hidden' sexual content in
a videogame, and are lobbying
for legislation that would fine
retailers for selling M and AO
rated games to minors. |

Super Nintendo - Playstation-Cd rom
SNES-PlayStation CD-Rom
The Original, ORIGINAL PlayStation!
Quick history for those not in the know:
Who is your Danger-daddy?
Back when the Super Nintendo and the Genesis were dueling it out
trying to gather the most consumers to their sides, there was a
feverish pitch to get a CD-Rom add on. Sega and NEC were
barreling along with their respective add-ons, but Nintendo was
not so sure about it yet. Granted, hindsight would prove that it
was more of Nintendo making money of the cartridges than
anything else, but both Sony and Phillips offered the chance to
do the periphrial .The Phillips idea would be scrapped and later
released as the doomed CD-I. When Sony was given the shaft by
the Big N’, they decided instead to go their own route. The SNES
PlayStation was given a huge makeover, new chipset, and became
the biggest monumental success story of the video game industry
since the NES.
Ain’t this a kick in the head?
That said, what you see here is the one and only living,
breathing, single proof of life of the ill-fated SNES CD-Rom add
on. This unit was rescued from the trash (gasp!) and left to die
alone. Thanks to our ninja super spies, Game Rave is proud to
announce the first ever photographs of this historical abortion.
The system itself never made it out of the prototype stages, and
even remains inside the ‘kit-bash’ casing. Closer inspection of
the bottom reveals that the cartridge port is one of the SNES
‘platform’ chip-set shells, with the rest of the system screwed
together with the words being printed labels. You can even see
the uneven beveling job on the pass through port.
So…about that entire US collection you supposedly have?
There were several prototype games playable on this, but sadly,
their names remain locked behind closed doors. Rumors have it
that Sony Imagesoft was somewhere on the CDs.
Go ahead, copy this.
Trivia
-The buttons on the top of the system, when read from top to
bottom are: Remain, Mode, FF, FR, Play/Pause, and Stop. The two
front LEDs are Read and Power. The Eject button is on the far
right.
That’s Danger-daddy, with 3 Ds
-There is a serial number on the systems black area, but it’s
more likely for the CD-Rom internals than the actual system. The
sticker on top reads MSF – 1 (Media Super Famicom?)
-The Beta set-up was feed based, not flip-top or draw style.
Talk about way ahead of its time!
-Yes, this is a Japanese model, hence the semi-circular shaped
cartridge port, and not the US square version.
-The controller you see is not for the system, heck, it’s not
even for the Super Nintendo! You’re looking at an early
prototype of the original PlayStation dev. unit controllers!
More interestingly, considering the size of the cartridge port,
look at how huge that thing is; it would crush a poor Super
Famicom.

GTA: San Andreas for PC on DVD 27 January
2005
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although not officially
announced by Rockstar Games or Take2 Games it
would appear that the PC version of GTA: San
Andreas which is being released on June 10th in
Europe will be available on DVD rather than the
traditional CD or Multi-CD release.
Great news for those
with DVD drives meaning we won't be swapping
discs around whilst exploring the massive
landscape of San Andreas. Crap news for those
without a DVD however if Take2 decide to
distribute the game in DVD format only.
Scared? Get yourself into your local hardware
shop and get a DVD drive whilst they're still
cheap as chips!
Thanks goes out to
GTA Gaming for the heads up on the
news!

January 2005 GTA for PSP
confirmed!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It had been rumored since
the first news of the Sony PSP was released that
a GTA game would appear on the console. With a
series so valuable it would be stupid not to.
These rumors were put to rest on Monday when
Rockstar Games released in a press release that
we would indeed be seeing a brand new GTA game
on the console around the consoles release in
March.
Sony's extremely
impressive technology has allowed Rockstar
Leeds to do more on a handheld machine than
we could have ever imagined. We are very
excited for gamers to experience these two
genre-defining franchises in a fashion that
could have never before been possible on a
portable system.
The game being developed
by Rockstar Leeds will take place in Liberty
City. Stay tuned for more updates on this title
soon!

little beauty whilst putting up
an auction on Ebay UK today. The
listing contained a $100 San
Andreas bill that was used not
only as an invitation to an
exclusive Rockstar Games San

The
bill (printed on both sides)
served as both the invite to
the party (Unique printed

could be used as money at
the "Caligula's Palace"
casino there. The reverse of
the bill has the drive-by

isn't though! Brian is an avid programmer and
long time GTA Fan who has decided to put his
skills to great use in porting GTA III over to
the NES!

Starting
out in late 2002 Brian begun work on the core
engine for the game and has since developed this

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Grand
Theft Auto San Andreas Jacked !!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas jacked
Less than a week before its release, the wildly anticipated
crime game has itself been stolen and republished on the
Internet.
Less than a week after a pirated version of Halo 2 began
appearing on the Web, another of the year's most sought after
games has been stolen. Ironically, it also happens to be a game
titled after a larcenous act itself. That's right. Grand Theft
Auto: San Andreas has become the latest victim of piracy, with
illegal copies of the game, its manual, and its cover appearing
on various Web sites.
Late today, Rockstar issued a statement on this latest in a
series of unfortunate events. "The proper authorities are
investigating the theft and are continuing to investigate all
possible leads to ensure there is no further dissemination of
our creative content," read the statement. "Downloading,
possession and distribution of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,
including making the game available on the internet, is theft."
Then came this warning from the company: "We take the theft of
our intellectual property very seriously and we are and will
continue to diligently and aggressively pursue this matter."
For those wishing to help track down the San Andreas thieves,
Rockstar also offered the following advice: "If anyone finds
information on websites with links to unauthorized downloads,
information, scans or videos, please contact us at
piracy@rockstargames.com."
Rockstar officials also emphasized the fact that the theft would
not affect Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' release plans. The
game is due in the US next Tuesday, October 26, and in Europe
next Friday, October 29. However, it is already clear that with
four of the year's top games--GTA: San Andreas, Halo 2, Doom 3,
and Half-Life 2---being posted online before their official
releases, piracy is becoming an increasingly common and serious
problem for both gamers and the games industry.
